Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician supports the Pharmacist in providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to patients in accordance with the policies and procedures of PerformSpecialty Pharmacy, the state’s professional standards, and other regulatory entities. The Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist and assists in the dispensing process by performing data entry, prescription preparation, claims processing, labeling, packaging, packing and delivery of medications and related services to patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Enter and process new and refill prescription orders, supplies and equipment requests while maintaining productivity and quality standards

  • Fill patient orders accurately by selecting and retrieving the appropriate medications, verify quantities, and prepare prescription labels for medications and related supplies

  • Forward orders to Pharmacist for completion, verification and/or clarification

  • Accurately enter data into pharmacy computer system so that appropriate paperwork is generated

  • Select appropriate supplies and ancillaries based on medication requirements, patient need and preference

  • Contact patients, caregivers and prescribers as needed to secure refill authorization, initiate order clarification; obtain information necessary to complete the patients profile and the dispense process

  • Adjudicate pharmacy claims, reviewing and resolving claim rejections; contacting insurance plans for assistance as needed

  • Assist with product purchasing, inventory and equipment management as needed

  • Ensure client specific materials are paired with order and prepare for shipment

  • Assist in the shipping process by selecting appropriate packing materials and packing method, and generating shipping labels

  • Prior to the end of their shift or as scheduled, clean dispensing area equipment and replenish workstation supplies

  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, internal and external customers

  • Perform additional duties as assigned as related to the practice of pharmacy which do not require a Pharmacist’s professional judgment

  • Understand drug terminology and therapies/services provided in specialty pharmacy

  • Understand and can perform intermediate pharmaceutical calculations in order to obtain correct doses of medications

  • Understand the broader organizational structure and the scope of services the company has to offer

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and proprietary information

  • Observe legal and ethical guidelines for safeguarding the confidentiality of patient and proprietary company information

  • Understand and comply with HIPAA

  • Participate in the process for assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment error and/or failures

  • Accurately complete quality assurance forms and forward to the supervising Pharmacist

  • In all activities, comply with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements

  • Participate in on-call responsibilities of the Pharmacy Department if required

Education/ Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Current/active Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician is required

  • Current/active National Certified Pharmacy Technician (i.e., ExCPT, NCCT or PTCB) is preferred

  • Minimum three (3) years of current/recent pharmacy experience required
